Newcastle vs Man City: Citizens to get back on track

Kick-off: 2000, 14/05/2021

Stadium: St James’ Park

TV: Sky Sports

The Premier League title may be all but wrapped up but Pep Guardiola will want Manchester City to stay focused in the run-up to the Champions League final.

Newcastle have caught everyone by surprise a few times of late but their overall record against big clubs does not make great reading.

We can’t see past 11/10 for an away win to nil for our first Newcastle vs Man City prediction.

A Look At Newcastle United’s Betting Odds

Newcastle are admittedly coming off a cracking 4-2 victory at Leicester, which was arguably their best performance of the season.

Callum Wilson’s double added to first-half goals from Joe Willock and Paul Dummett as the Magpies shocked the Foxes, who only claimed their consolation goals late on.

That made it three wins and a draw at Liverpool from their last five fixtures, having looked set to be involved in a relegation battle a month ago.

Steve Bruce said: “Once the big players return, it makes a difference. We have struggled with injuries and Covid-19 and that has been a major change.

“We were a threat, we were clinical, which helps. It was as good as we have played in the couple of years I’ve been here.”

However, even during the current good run there was a 2-0 home loss to Arsenal while Chelsea matched that score here earlier this term.

Manchester United won comfortably at St James’ Park and the Magpies were fortunate to escape with a goalless stalemate versus Liverpool on Tyneside.

Looking at the Newcastle vs Man City odds, we like 6/1 for the Blues to oblige 2-0.

Last Newcastle line-up: Dubravka, Dummett, Krafth, Fernandez, Shelvey, Ritchie, Murphy, Almiron, Willock, Saint-Maximin, Wilson.

A Look At Manchester City’s Betting Odds

Manchester City were left frustrated when going down 2-1 to Chelsea at Etihad Stadium in a dress-rehearsal for the Champions League final.

Raheem Sterling put the Citizens in front but Sergio Aguero fluffed his lines with an awful penalty and Chelsea made them pay.

Hakim Ziyech levelled for the visitors and Marcos Alonso grabbed a stoppage-time decider, with City harshly denied another spot-kick in between.

Guardiola was pragmatic in defeat, stating: “We did our best to win, we had the chances, unfortunately it could not be possible for different reasons.

“Now, after one or two days off, we’re going to prepare mentally, focus, analyse Newcastle and try to win the game.”

It should be noted that City did make nine changes for the Chelsea game from the side which beat PSG 2-0 in the Champions League.

Here, they should be closer to full strength and will be chasing a 12th straight away win in this competition.

The Blues tend to keep it tight in the opening exchanges on the road but then have a 9-1 aggregate advantage in the middle third of the first half.

That makes 11/5 for them to outscore the Magpies between 15:01 and 30:00 minutes worth adding to our Newcastle vs Man City betting tips.

Last Man City line-up: Ederson, Dias, Ake, Laporte, Mendy, Cancelo, Rodri, Sterling, Jesus, Aguero, Torres.
