Switzerland to beat Wales @ 23/20
The Swiss gave an excellent account of themselves in the latest edition of the Nations League, during which they twice drew with Germany and once with Spain, avoiding relegation at the expense of Ukraine. Vladimir Petkovic’s side reached the European Championship finals for the second time in a row by finishing top of a group containing Denmark and the Republic of Ireland. Plus, they recently got off to a good start in World Cup qualifying with wins against Bulgaria and Lithuania and prevailed in both warm-up friendlies.
Denmark to beat Finland @ 5/11
The Danes are playing all their group matches on home soil and have a wonderful opportunity to make a winning start in Copenhagen. Denmark were unbeaten at Parken during their qualifying campaign. They had to settle for a 1-1 draw against the Republic of Ireland in their first home match but won their next three, scoring 12 goals in the process and conceding just one. They will be keen to seize on any nerves from their Nordic neighbours, who are making their debut at a major finals.
Belgium to beat Russia @ 4/6
These are familiar foes from qualifying, when the Red Devils prevailed 3-1 in Brussels at the start of that campaign and then 4-1 in Saint Petersburg in the penultimate round of games, so we’re going with that trend to continue in our European football tips. Kevin De Bruyne’s injury is obviously a concern, along with the form of Real Madrid ace Eden Hazard, but Roberto Martinez has enough strength in depth to still hit the ground running in Group B.
England to beat Croatia @ 7/10
The Blazers famously prevailed when these teams met in the 2018 World Cup semi-finals but the Three Lions have made better progress since then and England’s youthful exuberance is expected to help them edge out an ageing Croatia outfit. Gareth Southgate seems intent on employing an up-tempo, high-pressing game plan and that can help England to overrun their opponents at Wembley. With regards Croatia, we fear the international retirement of Ivan Rakitic and advancing years of Luka Modric and Ivan Perisic leaves them vulnerable.
Austria to beat North Macedonia @ 13/20
Das Team beat North Macedonia at home and away in qualifying for Euro 2020 and can confirm that superiority on neutral territory in Bucharest. Austria were pretty sound defensively in finishing second behind Poland in that pool, conceding only one goal in two games against the table toppers. Play-off victories over Kosovo at home and Georgia away sent North Macedonia through to their first major event since gaining independence from Yugoslavia but the Lynxes now look up against it.
Netherlands and Ukraine to draw @ 11/4
Netherlands have a fine European Championship pedigree and some big names in their current squad but Ukraine enter Euro 2020 with a progressive profile. The yellow and blues have performed well against several powerful opponents over the past 12 months and are fancied to be competitive in Amsterdam. With former star striker Andriy Shevchenko at the helm, they claimed top spot in a qualifying pool which featured Portugal, taking four points off the holders during an unbeaten campaign of six wins and two draws. March’s 1-1 World Cup draw with France in Paris was another positive performance.
